Organizing a series

What a series does

A series groups related Works together under one shared listing, so a reader who finds one book in the series can see and move through the rest of it in order.

Ordered vs unordered

When you create a series, you choose whether it's ordered or unordered. An ordered series has a defined reading sequence, useful for a continuing story where reading order matters. An unordered series is a looser collection, for books that share a setting or theme but can be read in any sequence.

Choosing a numbering label

For an ordered series, you also choose the numbering label readers will see: Book, Volume, or Part. Pick whichever fits your genre and how you naturally refer to your own series, this is a display choice and doesn't affect anything else about how the books are listed or sold.

Adding books to a series

A book is placed into a series from its own listing, as one of the fields on the Work. You can add a book to a series when you first create it, or attach it to a series later if the series didn't exist yet.
