Getting started on BooksOasis

If you're setting up your account today, this walks you through the exact three steps between "just signed up" and "ready to list a book," and clears up which one actually unlocks publishing.

Step 1: Create your account

Registration only asks for three things: your name, your email, and a password. That's it, there's no profile paperwork at this stage because BooksOasis lets you browse the catalog and explore plans before you commit to anything.

Step 2: Complete your profile

Once you're in, the dashboard will prompt you to complete a "Complete Your Profile" step. This collects three details:

  • Legal name, used for account and payout records, never shown to readers.
  • Date of birth, because you must be 18 or older to publish and get paid on BooksOasis.
  • Country, which affects your payout method later.

You can browse BooksOasis, check out plans, and look around the dashboard without completing this step. It's only required the moment you try to publish.

What actually unlocks publishing Two things have to both be true: your profile is complete, and you've subscribed to a plan at least once. This is a one-time, binary unlock for your account, not something you do per book. Once you've cleared it, every future book you list works the same way, no re-checking required.

Before you're unlocked

Until both conditions are met, your dashboard stays browse-only. You can look at how listings, series, and author names work, but the actual "list a book" flow stays locked until your profile is done and you've picked a plan.

What comes next

Once you're unlocked, the natural next steps are picking the plan that fits your catalog size and setting up the author name or publisher identity you want readers to see.
