Payouts and payment methods
If you're ready to get paid, or wondering why your international payout hasn't landed yet, this covers how payout details work and what to expect.
Adding payout details
From your dashboard, you can add payout details at any time, either a Bank Transfer or a PayPal account. This is never required before you list a book or submit it for review, it only matters once there's actually money to pay out.
Domestic US bank transfer
Bank transfers within the United States typically come with no fee attached.
International payouts
Payouts outside the US go out by wire transfer. Because a wire transfer carries a real, fixed fee charged by the receiving bank, international payouts are held until your accumulated balance crosses a minimum threshold. This isn't a way of holding your money back, it's to make sure a wire's fixed fee doesn't eat a disproportionate chunk of a small payout. Nothing is ever lost, your balance just keeps accumulating until it crosses the threshold, at which point it's paid out.
Where earnings come from before a payout
Every sale is recorded in your earnings ledger as it happens. A payout draws from that accumulated balance, it doesn't require you to do anything sale by sale, see the royalties and earnings guide for how that balance is calculated.
If your plan lapses
Royalties from sales made while a plan has lapsed are held, not lost, until you renew. Once renewed, those held royalties become part of your payable balance again. See the plan lapses guide for the full picture.
