LiberScript vs. Affinity and InDesign: Book Formatting or Professional Layout?

Which books suit which tool

Ebooks

Novels and most non-fiction are best as reflowable ebooks, which adapt to each reader's screen and settings. Book formatting tools produce these directly from the same manuscript as the print book. Layout applications are built mainly for fixed page layouts: InDesign can export EPUB, but producing a clean reflowable ebook from a print layout takes extra work. Print quality

All three can produce professional print PDFs. Layout applications give you finer control over typography, such as kerning, hyphenation zones, baseline grids and exact image placement, which matters for demanding designs. Book formatting tools apply sensible defaults and styles that produce clean, professional interiors for text-led books without that level of manual work. Whatever you use, export at your exact trim size with fonts embedded, and check the inside margin for your page count.

Revisions and new editions

Books change after publication: a typo, new back matter, a link to the next book in a series. In a book formatting tool, you edit the text and re-export both files in minutes, because the layout follows the text. In a layout application, text edits can shift lines and pages, so check every spread after the change, especially near images.
